Hi and welcome to Homo Optimus,
I can sleep anywhere, anytime and for at least 10-12 hours straight. I have been like this ever since I was a teenager.
Sounds great, right? Except that I always wake up feeling like I could sleep some more. My sleep quality is fine; my waking-up quality, less so. In a way, you could see Homo Optimus as my quest to wake up refreshed.
This quest has really taken off in the last couple of years. In 2025 I became a breathwork instructor, started tracking my metrics, experimented with supplementation and learned transcendental meditation, among other things.
I still wake up feeling tired.
But along the way, I feel other improvements. I am learning more about my body and how to listen to it. I now know which nutrients I get enough of and which I am short on. I am learning how to create new habits. In short: I am becoming an optimal version of myself.
The question remains though: what works and what doesn’t? There is no point in having a habit or taking a supplement if you cannot tell the results. That is why I check my blood values, why I track my metrics and why I started Homo Optimus. I want to know if what I do works, but most importantly, I want to know if it does not.
As a breathwork instructor, for example, I want to know whether I become more coherent if I start practising (heart) coherence regularly. Feeling the effects is one thing; backing them up with data is another. Therefore I will run monthly experiments, with the protocol published before I start.
In the end, the goal is to feel good. Having data to back it up shows what works and what doesn’t.
So tag along, but don’t get lost in measurements!
Yannick
